+ Tips & tricks:
Toxic waste conversion plants are not a good idea - especially near any kind of civilization or water. They polute majorly - any water nearby goes brown!!! Normally, they are not worth the money, but if you really need the cash - well, you have no choice . . .
- Do not get a Gigamall in a small town if you do not have a very high commercial demand, for the commerce driven away will reduce your income more than the income from the Gigamall, unless there is hardly any commerce anyway.
- If you want to make a small, quaint little village, zone large areas of light industrial in areas of very low land values with no pollution, and you will get farms!
- If you are offered a garbage deal so one of your neighbours gives you rubbish, accept it if you have quite a bit of landfill/incinerator capacity free - garbage deals brign in the Simoleons in truckloads!
- If you are offered a Science Center, accept it if you have the cash - it is cool!
- If you are offered a Space Port, then YOU ARE GOOD AT SIMCITY (or an absolute cheater). They are, however, really expensive.
- In larger cities, you will need less industrial and more commercial zones.
In high-EQ cities, DO NOT zone areas of dense industrial, for clean industries are normally built on medium density. Hi-tech industries do not pollute at all as much as low-teh industries, but require a highly educated workforce to develop. Also, it is much more likely that they will develop after year 2000 than before.
It takes time for land to reach a high land value, and most land starts off rather low, unless it is commercial or residencial on a hill (it is higher because of a good view). When light residencial reaches High, Very High, or Astronomical land values, some of the properties look really nice, as can be see below. Areas with higher land values have higher tax values. Land value can be raised by increasing health and educational levels, and lowering crime and pollution. Also building attractive buildings can also raise the land value of an area. This can also work the other way, as unattractive buildings, pollution, crime, low health and education levels can lower land value. Slummy places bring in much less tax.
- If offered a deal by a neighbour, reject it at first unless it seems unlikely that you will get the oppotunity again - they will almost always offer a lower price if they are selling you something, or a higher price if you are selling them something - in other words, the second deal will often be much better for you.
- You may want to make your own terrain. To make custom terrain, you would find it useful to make a custom terrain using a bitmap (read this article on SC3000.com). Then, use the cheat for all the buildings in the Landmark window. Then you can place all your stuff. Save your city, and rename the file so it has an ending of .sct, and move it to the Terrains directory.
- If you want to make a starter town, load a terrain or make a new one in 2000, then use the cheat 'i am weak', and build your city, zoning areas and placing objects for free. DO NOT UNPAUSE THE GAME. Then save it, rename it to have the extension .st3, and move it do the Starter Towns directory.
+ Cheats:
I would strongly recommend for you NOT to use these cheats, until either you have been able to sucessfully run a city of a population of over 200,000, or you just CAN'T PLAY (i.e. you are useless). They can also be useful for creating terrains, starter towns, etc. I cannot be held responsible for any damage done to your computer, copy of SimCity or city by using these cheats. Most of them I have not tried out myself, and therefore some may not work. To use a cheat, type Ctrl + Alt + C, and type ing the cheat code. If it is not a code, or not spelt properly, it will not be accepted with you press Enter

To add every building in the game to the landmarks window (and remove the 10-landmark limit):
- Open the Power Plant window and then close it with the X button
- Then open the Rewards & Opportunities window and close it with the X button
- Open the Garbage Disposal window and then close it with the X button
- Now finally open the Landmarks window. You will notice that there is an absolutely MASSIVE list of landmarks, for it is every single possible stucture in Simcity. You can place as many of then as you want anywhere on the map at no cost!!
- TIP::: If you use a large map with lots of room, you can, if you really want to cheat, use this cheat and place a large array of 'Royal Manor's and 'Project Feelgood's, without bothering to connect water or power. Then you will get increased population and lots of money. Alternatively, at the beginning of a game, you could place lots of 'Royal Manor's together, raise the Residensial Taxes to 22%, and leave the simulation going for several decades. Then, once you have lots of money, you can buldoze all of it and start afresh. Alternatively, you could just download the trainer . . .
Free water Bug
Start your game and only build one building, then run a pipe from this building and connect it to the nearest neighbor. When the city's mayor offers a deal, take it regardless of price. Now, wait till the end of the month and use the "terrain ten up" or "terrain one up" cheats (see above -- these cheats will destroy all structures in your city). The connection will be destroyed as far as paying for the water goes, but when you rebuild the connection at that tile, you will be getting water for free.
